Three Ways to Read iButton Serial ID Number
Each iButton has a unique serial number. For 90% of applications, we use the DS1990A-F5 model. DS1990A-F5 iButton has only one serial number and no internal storage. In many cases, we need to read this ID number and record it in the database.

The red line in the figure is the DS1990A-F5 iButton serial number.
How can I read this serial number? In general, there are three ways:
Method 1: Read with naked eyes.
For example, the iButton serial numbers in the figure above are 31000018D8684F01 and 2F000018D989DE01 Obviously, reading with the naked eye is easy to make mistakes and inefficient. If the number of iButtons is small, this method can be selected. If the number is large, this method is not feasible.
Method 2: Use DS9490R USB adapter and OneWireViewer software.

As shown by the ID number in the red circle above, it is an ID number. Put the iButton on the probe (RJ11 connector), and the DS9490R USB adapter can recognize the ID number and display it on the OneWireViewer interface. However, if you want to copy this ID number to Excel, you need to select, copy and paste three steps. Obviously, this method is much more convenient than reading with the naked eye, and the probability of error is also small. However, for a large number of iButtons that need to read the ID numbers, the efficiency will also be quite low. In addition, copying and pasting may also make mistakes. Of course, the function of OneWireViewer is not only to read ID numbers, but also to read and write iButtons with storage functions such as DS1971 and DS1982 In addition, it can also read the temperature measurement data of the DS18B20 temperature sensor.
.So if we just read the ID number to Excel and txt, is there a more efficient method? The answer is yes! See:
Method 3: Use CC9490R iButton ID Keyboard

The function of this card reader is to replace the manual input of ID number. Its function is to use an ID keyboard. The reading and display of ID number in Excel, Txt and Word are automatically completed, eliminating the error of manual input. In addition, the efficiency is also very high. As long as the iButton is placed on the probe, the reading can be completed in milliseconds. In addition, it can also set return and new line. The output result is as follows:

The CC9490R series USB ID reader can not only read the conventional F5 iButton, but also install the CC9092S probe to read the magnetic ring ibutton (MR1990A) and the magnetic probe (CC9092M) to read the iron ring ibutton(MG1990A) We can also add a common probe and a magnetic probe at the same time, so that the ibutton reader can support the reading multi-types of iButton keys.
